ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

-Biotechnology has evolved as an important branch of science from merely being a part of baking and brewing. Recognizing the importance of it, the Department of Bio-Technology was established in 2005. Since then the department has been striving continuously to achieve excellence. The Department of Biotechnology was established with a goal of catering the underprivileged sections of the society who could not afford the luxury of studying in cities. The Department conducts courses at UG and PG level. The Science deals with techniques, including genetic engineering to get the desired outcome. It encompasses subjects like biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and engineering. Modern biotechnology is primarily focused on manipulating the DNA and finds its application in various fields from farming to pharmaceutics. In order to strengthen the Biotechnology education offered at the College, and to build a more robust academic and research environment in the College, it is the need of present scenario and necessity to strengthen the infrastructure, improve learning and teaching techniques at UG level . It is for the pursuit of this objective that the institution needs funding in this regard.

Activity Academic Year 2021-22 As a part of Academic and for students outreach programme department of Biotechnology organised a industrial visit at Sula Wineyards, Nashik. In February, 2021 department organised Various cultural days in Youth Festival week in department of Biotechnology. Department also organized Competition for staining micro-organisms with Gram stain organized on an 116th Birth anniversary of a scientist Christian Gram. During the Global Pandemic of Covid19, Department of Biotechnology has arranged various activities. On 18 may 2021 Department organized a quiz on" Covid-19 awareness" where students of biotechnology as well as students from various departments of college participated in the activity. Department of Biotechnology organized various guest lectures for students on "Preparing for food safety examination " by alumni student Mr. Mahesh Mhase, Technical assistant, FCI and on the Occasion of Food day on " Functional foods & Diet' by Dr. Sandesh Marathe, Scietist, IIT,Bombay and Mrs. Shital Shinde, Nutrition expert.
