ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

Department of Microbiology was established in 1972 and is one of the oldest centers providing education in Microbiology affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune. Initially, it offered B.Sc. in Microbiology while M.Sc. in Microbiology was started in 1982.

Department pursues the mission and vision of the institute while committed to providing quality education in Microbiology contributing to making student’s career bright as well as making them competent through their personality and skill development. The department has qualified and experienced faculty members who play a proactive role towards professional and personal growth of the students. With substantial teaching experience, they are actively involved in research with good number of publications in research journals and patents. Number of research projects from different funding agencies such as University Grant Commission, New Delhi; BCUD, SPPU have been sanctioned to the faculty members. Department of Microbiology is spacious with independent classroom, laboratories for individual classes. Departmental library with around 600 books makes literature and references easily accessible to the students. Department has an independent research laboratory equipped with a number of instruments and equipment necessary to carry out microbiological research.
